Summer Fun With Your Dood

Summer brings so many opportunities for fun in the sun. We have a few ideas for you! Just remember to keep your pup safe (vaccinated, flea/tick meds, registered microchip, float jacket, boots for hot concrete, etc)
  1. Play in the Pool - Swimming is fun,  exercise for puppies & will bring lots of bonding time! Remember, dogs don't just don't KNOW how to swim & some may not care for it.  We want it to be fun for all!
  2. Pack a Picnic - With summer in full swing, it’s the perfect time to plan a picnic with your pet. Dining outside when the weather is nice is so fun to do with your dog. You can plan a picnic from the park to the beach to my own backyard.
  3. Make A Frozen Treat - Frozen treats aren’t just for people. Dogs love an icy treat when it’s hot outside. All you need is a food your dog loves and an ice cube tray or treat toy like a Kong.  Check out some recipes we found here!
  4. Take a Hike - Dogs big and small are excellent hiking companions. Make sure that they are socialized among people and other dogs and that the weather is not too hot so you can have a great day exploring with them. Make sure that the hike is not too strenuous for them and they are well hydrated through the whole trek. Don't forget those boots we talked about too!
  5. Splash Zone Does your pup love water? Then turn your backyard into a private water park for your dog & invite some of their friends over!! Grab a sprinkler or hose, set it up, and encourage your pup to play fetch through it. Want the real deal? You can buy a doggy splash pad for your backyard, then sit back and watch your dog cool off while having tons of fun.  Here are a few ideas a Budget Friendly option and something more Permanent!
  6. Go To The Lake or Beach - Many dogs love playing in water, so why not spend a day at the lake or dog-friendly beach with your dog? No dog friendly beaches?  Take them Kayaking with you, or on your SUP, or out on the boat! (don't forget their float jackets)
  7. Visit the Farmer’s MarketFarmer’s markets are open every weekend during the summer season, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for you and your dog to contribute to your community while enjoying a summer’s day. For your dog, the farmer’s market offers the chance to encounter new people and scents. There may be some vendors who offer all natural dog food and homemade treats too! Check to be sure your local farmer’s market allows dogs before you go.
  8. Go on a Camping Trip - Summertime means pet playtime! It’s the perfect season for camping with our friends and pets. Whether you’re a backpacker that goes on journeys for days or a casual camper, your dog can be a great addition to your summer plans. Make sure you prepare your dog (Flea & tick meds & vaccines), research the campsite, get the right gear, and have fun.
  9. Night on the TownHow about a dinner date with your best four-legged friend? Summertime means restaurant patio season is in full swing. Check with local restaurants in your area for dog-friendly patio dining options. If your dog’s table manners leave a lot to be desired, grab some take out and make it a picnic at a nearby park.
  10. Try A Class - Check with local pet stores and parks to see if there are any dog friendly classes being held. Training classes, doggie yoga, or just fun dog events are all great activities to keep your dog active and socializing over the summer. You can even find some places that offer doggie swimming classes!

Summer is short, so make the most of it by bringing your dood along on your adventures. It is a great opportunity to socialize with others (human & 4 legged). Always check to be sure your dood is welcome ahead of time, then make some summer memories that will last forever. Don't forget to snap some pics, you'll be happy to have those later!  ENJOY YOUR SUMMER TOGETHER!!!!
